A proper assessment of the history of Europe reveals the role of the various eras that have given Europe its present state.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe started to enter a lengthy period of transformations starting from where it is called the Age of Migrations. The Renaissance as well as the new rulers started the era that was marked by discovery, exploration, as well as scientific exploration. Portugal entered the era of inventions and discoveries during the 15th century and Spain followed suit. Later countries like France, the Netherlands and England followed them in acquiring huge imperialist empires with large stakes in Africa, the United States and Asia.
After this the era of evolution of democracy in Europe begun. France started with the struggle for independence with its famous French Revolution. This revolutionary ideas set fire to Europe's political situation with every other country rising in revolt. A new type of tension was generated. This got culminated after Napoleon Bonaparte set out to conquer an empire for himself. However, his dream French Empire was soon dismantled. Then the Industrial Revolution begun, starting from Great Britain it spread all over Europe. Europe became the theater for both the world wars as well as the Cold War and now with the formation of the European Union Europe has become somewhat stabilized.
